英国汉学家卜士礼玉文化典籍译介研究

摘要:

英国汉学家卜士礼毕生致力中国艺术研究,研习中国玉器与玉文化十余载。本研究从传播素材建构、译本内涵阐释、文化多元推介三维度考察卜士礼的玉文化译介活动,再现译者如何沟通本土学者、命题编纂图文共叙的玉器论著,借助体例调节、概念详解、注疏阐微、图像辅助建构研究性译本,通过多元出版渠道、素材模态、应用路径推广译作,揭示玉文化西传的有效路径与模式,以期为中国玉文化及艺术文化翻译与传播提供有效借鉴。

Abstract:

This study explores the groundbreaking contributions of British Sinologist Stephen Wootton Bushell, who dedicated over a decade to studying Chinese jade artifacts and culture. As the first scholar to systematically introduce jade culture to the West, Bushell not only compiled jade-related treatises in China but also translated them through multiple channels for Western audiences. This article examines his work through three key aspects: the construction of dissemination materials, where Bushell collaborated with local scholars to create richly illustrated jade treatises combining textual and visual narratives; the interpretation of translated content, demonstrating his innovative approaches through textual structure adaptation, conceptual elucidation, nuanced annotations, and strategic use of visual aids to produce scholarly translations; and the pluralistic promotion of his works, utilizing diverse publication channels, material formats, and practical applications to maximize their impact. By reconstructing these multidimensional efforts, the study reveals effective models for transmitting Chinese artistic culture to the West, offering valuable insights for the global dissemination of jade culture and other traditional Chinese art forms. The findings highlight Bushell's pioneering role in bridging Eastern and Western cultural understanding through meticulous translation and innovative dissemination.
